Hines becomes a founding corporate member of the Russian Green Building Council - RuGBC.

On December 16, 2009, Hines was presented with an official membership certificate from the Russian Green Building Council. Hines received the certificate at the first official meeting of the Russian Green Building Council (RuGBC), which was presented by RuGBC co-founders Mr. Guy Eames, Mr. Alexei Polyakov and Mr. Yuriy Tabunchikov. The certificate is an official confirmation of Hines’ participation and Premium Membership in the council. Hines supports the RuGBC’s mission to promote awareness of sustainable development within the Russian real estate community and to recognize developers’ efforts in sustainability through the LEED® and BREEAM certification programs. At the meeting Hines recommended to the RuGBC the creation of a working group of developers and investors from the RuGBC membership community, whose purpose would be to promote sustainability to participants in Russia’s real estate investment and development community.

In 2009 Hines was awarded the first ever Green Perspective Award for leadership in sustainable development in the Russian Federation. Currently, Hines has over 300,000 square meters of real estate assets and developments that are either pre-certified or certified under the BREEAM certification standard. In the United States, Hines has 98 real estate assets and developments that are either registered, pre-certified or certified under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System. Additionally, Hines has over 130 buildings that have been awarded the ENERGY STAR® label by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hines’ ENERGY STAR buildings save investors and tenants over $103 million in energy costs annually. Hines is a member in the U.S. and U.K. Green Building Councils.
