Fort Halstead masterplan proposals move forward
Plans for a new community – an exemplar in sustainable development – at Fort Halstead near Sevenoaks in Kent are moving forward, following public consultation with the surrounding communities in April and May. This involved a series of three all day events, attended by over 650 local residents where Hines and its professional team presented the concept masterplan, answering questions on it and responding to comments raised.
Hines UK is Development Manager for this new mixed use development on the 330 acre (134 ha) site. In a joint venture with RREEF, the real estate investment arm of Deutsche Bank, Hines UK acquired the site from publicly quoted defence company QinetiQ in 2005.
Plans being prepared will provide for 1,100 new residential units, with offices, retail, leisure, community and education facilities and a hotel. Public open space is a key part of the proposals, with woodland, sports facilities and agricultural land all included. The proposals being worked up by masterplan architects Aedas will reflect much of the feedback received during the public consultation and it is hoped a planning application will be ready in the early part of 2009.
Hines is dedicated to delivering an exemplar project in terms of product, sense of place and sustainability – economic, social and environmental. As the development will be delivered over a number of phases, it will be future-proofed, with the ability to embrace evolving energy efficient design, environmentally friendly technologies and changing economic circumstances.
