In January 2011, Hines formed a dynamic new Multifamily Division to expand the firm's apartment development activity throughout the U.S. by working with Hines' domestic regions on for-rent residential
Today, the division has approximately 7,500 units in 26 projects in 17 different cities across the United States and Canada, including Atlanta, the Boston area, Calgary, Denver, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, the Washington, D.C. area, Pasadena, CA, San Francisco and St. Petersburg, FL.

Kevin Batchelor joined Hines in April 2011. His focus is the coordination of multifamily activities throughout the U.S. Southwest Region. He was recently vice president of development for The Legado Company, a privately owned boutique real estate firm. He was responsible for new business and for all phases of development, construction and delivery of high-density multifamily apartment projects. Prior to joining the Legado Company, he was the managing regional development partner of The Hanover Company, a multifamily development firm based in Houston. While at Hanover, Mr. Batchelor sourced, developed and executed the design and delivery of 14 mixed-use residential projects (four to 26 stories) representing $1.25B in value and more than 2,600 residential units. He graduated from the University of Texas with a BA in Architecture and received a Master's of Science in Real Estate Development from Columbia University.
Jim Dunlop joined Hines in July 2011. His focus is the coordination of multifamily activities throughout the U.S. East Region. Mr. Dunlop was most recently Senior Vice President for ZOM Development, Inc. in Washington, D.C., where he managed the company's multifamily real estate development operations for the mid-Atlantic region, and as a senior officer for projects valued at approximately $200 million. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President-Development for Archstone-Smith's Northeast region, and was responsible for the firm's residential developments in New York, Boston and Chicago; in this capacity, he served as the senior officer for projects valued at over $1.2 billion. Mr. Dunlop is a graduate of NC State University (Civil Engineering), received his MS in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas and received an MS in Real Estate Development from John Hopkins University.
John Favreau joined Hines in October 2011. His focus is the coordination of multifamily activities throughout the U.S. West Region. Prior to joining Hines, Mr. Favreau was co-founder and Principal of JRS Realty Partners, LLC — a Southern California-based developer and manager of apartment communities where he was responsible for all aspects of the company's development activities and growth. Prior to founding JRS, he spent 11 years with The Morgan Group, Inc. as a Senior Vice President. While with Morgan, he was directly responsible for over $500 million in new multifamily and mixed-use developments throughout California and the Pacific Northwest. From 1986 to 1997, he was engaged in brokerage, syndication and management of various multifamily and industrial properties throughout Southern California. Mr. Favreau is a licensed California real estate broker and an active member of both the Urban Land Institute and the National Apartment Association. He graduated from California State University at Long Beach with a BS in Construction Engineering Management and received his Masters in Real Estate Development from University of Southern California.
Jon Wood joined Hines in April 2011. His focus is the coordination of multifamily activities throughout the U.S. Southeast Region. Mr. Wood was formerly president of Urbanscape Properties, which managed the pre-development of multifamily projects and provided advisory and consulting services to private companies and REITs targeting the acquisition of bank notes as well as distressed and value-add properties. Before joining Urbanscape, Wood was the division partner with The Morgan Group responsible for managing development in the Southeast and Washington, D.C. During his career, Mr. Wood has developed numerous mixed-use and multifamily projects, including over 6,000 apartments, throughout the Southeast and metro Washington, D.C., with a combined market capitalization of more than $1.5 billion. He graduated from Rollins College with a BA in Economics and received his Masters of Business Administration from University of Florida. Mr. Wood is a member of the National Housing Council, Urban Land Institute, and University of Florida Friends and Alumni of Real Estate. He currently serves as a member of the University of Florida Real Estate Advisory Board.
Hines is developing a key three-acre parcel overlooking the signature feature of Uptown Houston, The Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park. WaterWall Place will be ready for occupancy in November 2013.
