Groundbreaking Celebration For Chase H&Q Headquarters To Be Held On July 24

7/17/2000

(SAN FRANCISCO, CA) -- On Monday, July 24, from 5-7 p.m., 500 revelers will join Mayor Willie Brown under a big top tent to celebrate the impending start of construction of SoMa’s newest landmark at 560 Mission Street. Hines, the international real estate firm, with substantial holdings in San Francisco and along the West Coast, is developing the dramatic new tower for Chase H&Q. The structure will represent world-renowned architect Cesar Pelli’s first new building in San Francisco.

At the groundbreaking event, a major public art commission will be announced. Well-known artist George Rickey’s stainless steel kinetic sculpture will adorn the building’s public plaza. Speakers at the groundbreaking event will include: Jeffrey C. Hines, president of Hines, one of the world’s largest privately-held real estate companies; Dan Case, president of Chase H&Q, the investment banking firm which will occupy the entire building; Michael Flaherman, chief investment officer of California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS), which in partnership with Hines as National Office Partners (NOP), will own the building; and Mayor Brown.

"Hines is delighted to celebrate this remarkable project with our partners CalPERS, Chase H&Q and the City of San Francisco," said Paul Paradis, Senior Vice President. “The Chase H&Q building will be a very special addition to the already spectacular San Francisco skyline."
