It was through Gerald Hines' desire for better workspaces and more efficient operations that the firm he founded began creating buildings that are better for people and the planet. As a result, we champion delivering financial performance hand in hand with providing first class ESG credentials. We have a clear Fund strategy which is underpinned by being a committed and responsible owner and operator of real estate, placing our clients, partners and the wider community front and center of every action we take.
From the Fund's inception in 2006, we have strived to be ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability. We secured Environmental Performance Certificates (EPCs) before they became mandatory by law in 2009, and we piloted several 'first of its kind' green building certifications, which are now commonplace. More recently, HECF has been named as a GRESB sustainability sector leader for an unprecedented fourth year in a row, and the Fund won the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA) Real Estate Investment Management ESG Award in the open-end fund category, beating 59 competing funds respectively.
Alongside our focus on sustainability, we are strong believers in delivering real estate that is interwoven into the fabric of communities, creating better places to live, work, play and stay. To this end, we have clear Fund objectives and targets that seek to deliver on every gambit of what it means to be a leader in ESG.
