Chase Tower Hosts 2nd Annual Lemon Climb

More than 800 people hit the stairwells of Chase Tower in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Lemon Climb, an event inspired by Alexandra “Alex” Scott and her courageous battle against the cancer that claimed her life at age 8. When she was four, Alex and her brother set up a lemonade stand in their front yard to help doctors find a cure for her disease. Her parents founded Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation in her honor in 2005, and since that time the nonprofit has raised more than $150 million in her name.

Participants in the Lemon Climb opted to climb 35 or all 75 flights of Chase Tower and raised pledges for their efforts. Many observers were on hand to celebrate their efforts and show support for childhood cancer patients—some taking the express elevators straight to the building’s top floor to greet climbers when they completed their trek. In addition to event hosts Hines and Texas Tower Limited Partnership, key sponsors included Northwestern Mutual, Otis Elevator Company, The Faris Foundation, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and ISS Facility Services.

Lemon Climb Houston raised more than $126,000, enough to fund nearly a year’s worth of cancer research.
