ENGIE Deutschland GmbH Leases Office Space in Hines’ New Stadtquartier Südkreuz

(BERLIN) — Hines, the international real estate firm, today announced the first major tenant at the new Stadtquartier Südkreuz, being developed near the transit hub ‘Schöneberger Linse’. Energy and technology service provider ENGIE Deutschland has signed a lease for around 6,000 square meters of the approximately 8,000 square meters of office space on Tempelhofer Weg. ENGIE will relocate part of its operations in Berlin to Südkreuz station.

Construction of the Stadtquartier Südkreuz is expected to begin by mid-year, with completion expected in mid-2020. In addition, Hines is building 655 for-rent flats, a kindergarten and 1,700 square meters of retail space. The rental flats will feature various sizes, from micro-apartments to family flats, as well as 116 subsidised apartments. As an urban district solutions specialist, ENGIE has also entered into a long-term contract to provide heating and electricity for the entire site at below-market rates.

To improve the quality of life, Stadtquartier Südkreuz will also offer e-bikes and electronic car-sharing programs to residents, along with communal areas. Marketing of the available commercial space is expected to begin by the end of the year.

“We are thrilled that ENGIE Deutschland will be a prestigious new major tenant for the office space in Südkreuz. We are taking an innovative approach to developing the urban district in this location,” explains Joachim Wintzer, managing director of Hines Immobilien GmbH.

“We were looking for an iconic new building for our planned relocation that adequately reflects our company and its goals as a leader in the energy transition. With office space in the innovative environment of Schöneberger Linse, we will be perceived as contributing to creating a sustainable energy future”, says Manfred Schmitz, CEO of ENGIE Germany.

With the addition of ENGIE, Schöneberger Linse—located between the EUREF campus (symbol of the energy transition) and the Südkreuz “Station of the Future”—is furthering its reputation for being an “energy and mobility location,” not only in Berlin, but throughout Germany.
