Completed in 1989, Franklin Square, located across from Franklin Park in the heart of Washington, D.C.'s central business district, is a 12-story office building containing 505,000 square feet. Architectural features include an exterior clad in Indiana buff limestone, massive 11-story columns and a classic French mansard roof crowned by an ornamental cresting. The elegant three-story lobby space contains six freestanding tapered, fluted limestone columns that rise to the lobby's full height. The floor is clad in bands of green marble with a checkerboard pattern of black and white marble. The lobby walls are clad in limestone panels accented by inlays of black marble and semiprecious red jasper. The coffered ceiling contains translucent glass panels that are illuminated from above to create a skylight effect.
