(MEXICO CITY) – The Mexico City office of Hines, the international real estate firm, announced today that Coca-Cola’s corporate building in Mexico has received Gold certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® for Existing Buildings (EB) rating system. It is the first property in Mexico to attain the Gold level and the first existing office building in the country to achieve any level of certification.
Edificio Coca-Cola is a 151,936-square-foot Class A office property located in the Polanco submarket of Mexico’s capital city. The property was developed by Hines in 1997 as a part of its Del Bosque project, which also includes two 30-story condominium towers.
Edificio Coca-Cola was designed by Cesar Pelli & Associates, and the facility has been managed by Hines since completion.
Hines Vice President Palmer Letzerich said, “We are proud of our strong Mexican team’s investment in learning and working to implement top global standards where possible with our valued Mexican clients.
International tenants and owners like Coca-Cola have experienced the benefits of green building elsewhere and are attempting to expand those benefits to include their global portfolios. As a result, more and more owners in Mexico are seeing real economic value in greening their existing building stock. As a firm, we are enthusiastically pushing forward with our leadership in sustainable building management and LEED certification services across Mexico.”
Coca-Cola de Mexico President Brian Smith said, “Hines is a pioneering property manager that leverages its international repertoire in green building to offer clients like us the highest level of service and sustainability consulting.
These improvements will be good for our employees, the environment and our bottom line.”
