Over a three-day period, volunteers from Hines’ Southwest Region recently volunteered at The Beacon – a downtown Houston facility whose services restore dignity, self-respect and hope to more than 10,000 homeless clients each year.
This is the second year Hines employees have served together at The Beacon. The teams received instruction on a variety of tasks and were assigned duties in the dining, kitchen and laundry rooms, all busy areas of operation. The Beacon day center offers laundry services, showers and hot meals to more than 300 men and women every day. In March alone, the center served more than 4,000 meals. In addition to its day center, The Beacon offers pro-bono legal services, basic health care and special assistance to previously incarcerated women who are homeless. The charity operates as a ministry of Houston’s Christ Church Cathedral.
