(HOUSTON) – Hines, the international real estate firm, announced today the appointment of Rick Mercer as President of Urban Oaks Builders, a new general contracting company that will work for Hines’ Multifamily Division, headed by Senior Vice President Alan Patton.
In this capacity, Mercer will be responsible for the construction efforts of multifamily projects on a national basis, augmenting existing regional teams on current projects and overseeing future construction projects.
“We are pleased to welcome Rick to our team, and are excited about what his experience and expertise will bring to our multifamily efforts as we expand into general contracting,” said Patton.
“By performing the general contractor role in-house, we believe we will be able to better manage costs and control quality.”
Mercer was most recently a director for Wood Partners, a development and construction company in Atlanta, where he managed the firm’s South and West construction and high-rise divisions.
Prior to that, he was pre-construction manager for Bovis Lend Lease in Atlanta, where he worked on major public and private projects throughout the Southeast, including stadiums, offices and multifamily developments.
Mercer is a graduate of Kansas State University where he earned a B.S. in Construction Engineering in 1982.
