HINES IN THE COMMUNITY
The spirit of giving back.
Hines has an entrepreneurial structure, providing each region with a certain amount of autonomy. As such, community involvement may differ from office to office according to the preferences, energy and motivation of its employees.
As a corporate citizen of cities worldwide, Hines encourages its employees to respond to the needs of their host communities and to act upon issues of interest and concern, taking the lead in cultural affairs, social responsibility, environmental protection and community beautification.
Hines in the Community
The United Way, Houston, Texas
Hines is an avid supporter of the United Way of the
Texas Gulf Coast, which serves Harris, Ft. Bend, Montgomery
and Waller counties as well as the Bay Area with more than 250
programs run by 80 agencies. Each year, the firm's week long
campaign generates increased employee participation and donations.
Edison Language Academy, Santa Monica, California
The Hines employees at Lantana Center held a reading night in May 2001 to benefit the Edison Language Academy. The Academy is a charter school teaching an English/Spanish language curriculum to approximately 400 students in grades K-5. The evening began with appearances by popular cartoon characters and concluded with stories read by special guests and Lantana Center employees.
Sant Marti' District, Barcelona, Spain
The Hines employees at Diagonal Mar hosted the Sant Marti' children's sea exhibition where children from that district painted 85 murals decorating the perimeter of Diagonal Mar. Youngsters were inspired to draw on their own experiences and thoughts in their creative interpretations of the sea. In recognition of the massive participation and fantastic results, Diagonal Mar presented a computer to each of the schools involved.
Publicolor, The Bronx, New York
A Hines team from the New York City area joined inner-city students
recently to repaint the public areas of their school in the
Bronx. The effort was sponsored by Publicolor, a group whose
mission combines the power of community, color and success to
transform public spaces - especially those used by young people
in impoverished neighborhoods. Hines volunteers and their families,
under the guidance of Publicolor staff, prepped and painted
alongside student volunteers.
